Maundy Thursday

MAUNDY THURSDAY comes from the Latin word "mandatum," meaning mandate or commandment.  It was on Thursday that Jesus gave a new commandment - "A new command I give you: Love one another.  By this all will know you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Pange Lingua Gloriosi
(Praise We Christ's Immortal Body)

TEXT: St. Thomas Aquinas (d. 1274)
MUSIC: Mode III Chant
Processional Chant

Pange lingua gloriosi
Corporis mysterium,
Sanguinisque pretiosi,
Quem in mundi pretium
Fructus ventris generosi
Rex effudit gentium.

Nobis datus, nobis natus,
Ex intacta Virgine,
Et in mundo conversatus,
Sparso verbi semine,
Sui moras incolatus,
Miro clausit ordine.

In supremae nocte coenae,
Recumbens cum fratibus,
Observata lege plene,
Cibis in legalibus,
Cibum turbae duodenae,
Sedat suis manibus.

Verbum caro panem verum,
Verbo carnem efficit.
Fitque sanguis Christi merum,
Et si sensus deficit,
Ad firmandum cor sincerum,
Sola fides sufficit.

Sensuum defectui.

Procedenti aabutroque,

THE MASS OF THE LORD'S SUPPER

The one table of the Lord welcomes all.  The newly blessed oils to be used for Baptism, Confirmation, and the Anointing of the Sick are presented to the community.  The imitation of the washing of the feet at the Last Supper by Jesus is a model to follow as commitment to service.
