USTPMTBBAA Officers Holiday Greetings 2014

 Recycled  Page

I just finished reading my 100 e-mails or so from UST batchmates including D'Bionic's sending my wish of more snow.  LOL!
I also opened Mrs. G's USTPMTBBAA Newsletter.
This is part of it to those who are non-members:
Peace!
Holiday Season
Greetings to you!!
In accordance to his [Professor Joe] wishes we proceeded with the USTPMTBBAA reunion, and Jose, Martin and Brandie travelled to Las Vegas with Purie to help.  During the reunion, it was suggested and agreed upon to retain Prof. Joe as President post-humously for the remainder of his term, and donations were given for a memorial scholarship in his name.  Claire was not able to attend because she was in Iowa City for her 25th year high school reunion.
In November Purie travelled with Claire, Jose and Greg to bring Prof. Joe's cremains for burial.  Joe was interred on November 9th with his parent at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Quezon City.  We were also fortunate to have a Santos Family reunion, and spend time with the Gallardos, as well as meet many members of the Bondoc clan.  Purie also presented the USTPMTBBAA and Zenaida Gomez scholarship funds to the Vice Rector of UST.
We have since then returned home.
During this joyous Season we wish you
A BLESSED NEW YEAR.
Signed,
Purie Gallardo and Family

Christmas Eve 2014 St. Lambert Church

Christmas Eve at St. Lambert Church,  Skokie, Illinois

THE BREAD which you do not use is the bread of the hungry
THE GARMENT hanging on your wardrobe is the garment of him who is naked
THE SHOES that you do not wear are the shoes of the one who is barefoot
THE MONEY that you keep locked away is the money of the poor

--St. Basil the Great

PAN DE VIDA
Pan de Vida, cuerpo del Senor,
Cup of blessing, blood of Christ the Lord
At this table the last shall be first.
Poder es servir, porque Dios es amor.
We are the dwelling of God,
Fragile and wounded and weak.
We are the body of Christ,
Called to be the compassion of God.
You call me Teacher and Lord;
I, who have washed your feet.
So you must do as I do,
So the greatest must become the least.
There is no Jew or Greek;
There is no slave or free;
There is no woman or man;
Only heirs of the promise of God.
Pan de Vida, cuerpo del Senor,
Santa copa, Cristo Redentor.
Su justicia nos convertira.
Poder es servir, porque Dios es amor.

Ecarma Private Collection of Mortar and Pestle

PRICELESS COLLECTION FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD - INDIA, JAPAN, PHILIPPINES,  CHINA, USA, FRANCE, SPAIN, PORTUGAL, MALAYSIA, TAIWAN, GERMANY AND OTHERS OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN.  SO UNIQUE NOT EVEN AMAZON HAS THESE MORTARS AND PESTLES!

HISTORY OF MORTAR AND PESTLE

The earliest found mortars and pestles date back to around 35,000 years B.C.  The English word mortar derives from the Latin mortarium meaning "receptacle for pounding" and "product of grinding or pounding."  The Latin word pistillium meaning "pounder" led to English pestle.  The Roman poet Jovenal applied both mortarium and pistillium to articles used in the preparation of drugs, reflecting the early use of mortar and pestle as a pharmacists or apothecary's symbol.

For pharmaceutical use, the mortar and head of the pestle are usually made of porcelain, while the handle of the pestle is made of wood.  This is known as a Wedgwood mortar and pestle and orignated in 1779.  Today the act of making ingredients or reducing the particle size is known as trituration.  Mortars and pestles are also used as drug paraphernalia for food preparation and to grind up pills to speed up absorption when they are ingested or in preparation of insufflation.

Prepare the Way Simbang Gabi 2014

BEGINNING OF SIMBANG GABI     DECEMBER 16 TO CHRISTMAS EVE

Prepare the way, the way of the Lord.
Ready your hearts, oh, the Lord is coming soon.
Make straight the path, level the hills, lift up the gates.
Justice and peace, kindness and truth shall come to the earth.
Sing and rejoice! The Lord is near, I say rejoice!
A virgin will bear a son, Emmanuel: God with us!
