FROM SECRETARY/TREASURER:

Hello fellow Thomasians, Year 2013 is going fast that we are half way through the year.  Here is wishing you a very happy and enjoyable summer.  I hope you have a great and memorable summer vacations with your families.

Mini Reunion Cruise-  We had our Mini Reunion May 20 2013 on a four night cruise to Baja Mexico on the Carnival Inspiraton.  It was a great experience for me a first time cruiser.  People were all helpful and courteous.  There were quite a variety of food, entertainment and Casino for those who want to try their luck.

There were nineteen attendees after several cancellations.  It was a happy and fun occasion and quite memorable.  We were able to meet new friends and get to know more of our fellow UST graduates. 

My gratitude to Sue Peterson, Leisure Travel Consultant of Frosch Travel who along with Zeny Hilbert organized this Mini reunion cruise.  I found Sue most helpful and pleasant to work with.  Many thanks for personally preparing the Cruise Information Manual and mailing to us.

Many thanks to Budz1's "USTPMTBBAA Calendar" Fundraising and donated $230 (updated) and  Victory Limjuco, 1965 B.S. Pharmacy graduate and donated $200.

Our Fiscal year will be ending this June 30, 2013 and time to renew your membership.  Please return the enclosed/attache Renewal/Application Form with your membership fee.  Thank you very much.

Worked for Revco Drugstore.  He started as a Pharmacy Intern and Student at Ohio Northern University, Revco awarded him a Grant (tuition) while finishing his B.S. Pharmacy degree.

Worked at Revco Drugs as a Pharmacist: From 1977 to 1980 then quit for 6 years.  

Worked for Rite Aid as a Pharmacist: From 1980 to 1986 then quit.

Was re-hired back by Revco from 1986 to 1999.  During those years started as a staff and eventually promoted as Pharmacy Manager.

Presently a staff pharmacist for CVS Pharmacy since 1999 when Revco was bought out by CVS.  Was Pharmacist in Charge but relinquished the position because of health issues and decided to take it easy and enjoy life and spend more time with family especially the grandchildren.

ACTIVITIES:

Active member of Knights of Rizal (Cleveland Chapter)

Appointed Vice President for East Coasts 2003 to 2012 by our late Prof Jose Gallardo, President and Founder of USTPMTBBAA

Accepted the position of President of USTPMTBBAA last June - For four years from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2016

FAMILY:

Fely Casino - beloved wife (and happily married for 40 years and counting for more).

Four Children -  Son BJ and Daughters Christina, Rowena, & Victoria

Four Grandchildren: Maren, Aidan and twin boys Elijah & Mason

HELLO AND HI TO EVERYONE.

THE YEAR 2013 IS MIXED WITH JOY AND EXCITEMENT AND HEALTH ISSUE FOR ME.

THE MINI REUNION IN BAJA MEXICO WAS A SUCCESS AND ENJOYABLE FOR ALL OF US.  I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE GROUP WHO WAS WITH US AND INDEED IT WAS FUN.

THE REAL FUN IS OUR 2014 GRAND REUNION TO BE HELD IN SAN DIEGO MARRIOTT MARQUIS & MARINA (DOWNTOWN).  THE SAVE THE DATE HAS BEEN E-MAILED OUT.  MEMBERS, ALUMNI, FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE ALL WELCOME TO ATTEND.  THE HOTEL AS VENUE HAS ALREADY BEEN RESERVED.  MORE DETAILS WILL BE SENT IN THE FUTURE.

FROM THE DESK OF PRESS RELATION OFFICER BUDZ1

Hello and happy summer to all USTPMTBBAA officers and members.  It is a season full of fun and joy.  The calendar is full - going to the beach, grilling and barbecuing, Father's Day, going on weekend rips and visiting family and friends.

There's always the beginning of the end - our website in particular.  For those who just joined in with the alumni association our first website, MSN Groups was created in 2003 and ended in 2009 when MSN decided to close it for it had become so big and all the photos were deleted.  However, the texts from the MSN Groups websites were transferred to Multiply.com in January 2009 and I created the ust1611.multiply.com which closed on March 21, 2013 after 4 years.  I find it to be the very best website because I was able to upload everything with no limits - photos, videos, music, PowerPoint and my attachments.  When the Multiply CEO decided to close it, concentrating more in the marketplace of Indonesia and the Philippines, again the texts but not the photos (all deleted) were migrated to Google - blogspot, our current home since October 27, 2012.  http://ust1611.blogspot.com  If you see 'box with red X'  in previous pages, from January 2009 to October those were inserted photos from [the defunct] Multiply.  The connection was lost and the link broken.  I intend to review the pages and replace the old photos deleted with the same ones from my files.  Hopefully, the blogspot website will last for another 5 years!  On April 1, 2013 Google/Blogspot announced it will cease to exist in 2025.  APRIL'S FOOL!

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Scholarship Fundraising of the 18-Month USTPMTBBAA Calendar.  A donation of $200 that was raised was donated to the association.

NEWS FROM UST FACULTY OF PHARMACY, MANILA PHILIPPINES:

APPOINTED DEAN ELLEN MANANSALA went to Mahidol University and Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand last May 20-24, 2013 with Dean Torres and Fr. Pompeyo de Mesa, Faculty of Pharmacy Regent and the Department Chairs to sign a memorandum of agreement for academic exchanges.  They had their faculty retreat last May 29-30 in Calaruega with Fr. Rolando dela Rosa as retreat master.  In between they had their enrollment and meetings for accreditation and syllabi making.

Board exams for pharmacists was on June 25-26.

The "2013 Homecoming" will be on Saturday, November 30, 2013.  Calling all 1963 graduates, "Golden Jubilarians" for a reunion at UST.  The unit in the Thomasian Alumni Center that will serve as the Faculty of Pharmacy office was turned over on June 15.  But it is bare.  The UST Faculty of Pharmacy Association will do the interior constructions and buy the furniture as well.  They have until October 15 to finish the interiors so it will be in time for the homecoming.  They will be updated for more details later.

Dean Priscilla Torres retired from UST effective June 01.  She was supposed to retire May 2011, but was extended for 2 more years.  She was requested by FR. Arceo, Rector of Aquinas University, Legazpi, and former Rector of UST, to supervise the offering of Pharmacy Program in Bicol (the first to open the program).  They will start with 2 sections (45 students each) and hopefully, will have quality students.
