Hello again, D'Bionic VP!
I enjoyed my long chit-chats with you last Saturday. I checked on what you told me about the academic standing of our school in comparison with other Philippine and Asian (South/Southeast) schools. It's true like you said that UST had low standing and was not even included in Top 100. Upon further analysis of the rating, the website was more directed on "Finance" and other government jobs. I think our private school is more famous in the subjects of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, botany and fine arts. I wonder if we still have ballet lessons at UST? Heheheh!
Yeah, I did not know either until my friend and UST alumni Gayle told me that the Philippine First Lady at the time, Imelda Marcos, kicked out of UST all the Spanish Dominican Priests and was replaced by Filipino priests to manage the school in the interest of nationalism. Our Dean of Pharmacy, Fr. Lorenzo Rodriguez, on his way back to Spain having been "Fired" stayed at the home of Gayle here in Skokie, Illinois. Although I had always maintained a very low profile at the time because of my above the knee skirt, once in a while I got to meet by chance Fr. Rodriguez...and he had always a very nice smile. Fr. Mata? That's another story.
Fr. Rodriguez, my favorite Dean, died on January 28, 1976 in Avila, Spain.
