High Holy Days are near. Lenten journey is concluding at sundown on Holy Thursday with the beginning of the Mass of the Lord's Supper. The Triduum is the remembrance of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - the Paschal Mystery.
Christ's passion. Our passion.

April 1, Holy Thursday: St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church - 7:30 pm Holy Mass
The Gospel depicts Jesus as the Teacher and Lord who humbly serves the disciples by performing the "washing of feet."
The practice of washing of the feet had fallen for a long time in church celebration. In 1955, it was restored by Pius XII as part of the general reform of the Holy Week liturgies.
Last evening, I was part in the practice of the washing of the feet, for a moment became one of the 12 Apostles and had my foot washed in water by the priest. (Although I had no intention of volunteering, for divine reason, a "heavenly voice" told me to have a pedicure earlier that day).
April 2, Good Friday: Mass is not celebrated anywhere in the world. Instead, the following unique liturgies are celebrated:
1. The Liturgy of the Word
Reading from Isaiah and the letter to the Hebrews, and the Passion from St. John's Gospel. After the homily, 10 special intercessions are read or sung, including prayers for the church, for the pope, for the unity of Christians, for those in special need, and for those who do not believe in God.
2. Veneration of the Cross
The assembly is invited to come forward and perform an appropriate sign of reverence for the cross, such as touching or kissing the wood of the cross.
There was a cemetery very close to Golgotha (Place of Skull). Excavations have found tombs
there, and since the second century, one of them has been venerated as the tomb of Jesus.
The Gospels don't record it, but this is when the "Pieta" would have happened. In John's Gospel, Jesus' mother was near the cross when he died. Just for a moment she held the body of her son. Words will not do to describe this moment...Michaelangelo's masterpiece says its best.
3. Holy Communion
Holy Communion is distributed from the bread that was consecrated at the Mass on Holy Thursday. After communion, the altar is stripped,
and the people leave church in silence.
