Trip to Amana Colonies:
The Inspirationists emerged in the early 1700s as part of the Pietist and Spiratualist movement within the Lutheran Church in Germany.  In 1842, 800 German Inspirationists settled near Buffalo, New York, and began to practice full communal life institutionalizing precepts concerning dress and lifestyle.  For economic and spiritual reasons, however, the group bought 18,000 acres in Iowa in Iowa in 1854 and called their new home "Amana," a word taken from the Old Testament Song of Solomon, which means "to remain faithful."
In 1932, the year of the "Great Change," the communal way of life was discontinued.  Strict regulations on dress and lifestyle have also been gradually eliminated.  Church life, however, continues with its spiritualistic pattern and simple form of worship, in unadorned meetinghouses.

Prayer to the Shoulder Wound of Jesus

I have been instructed by our religious classmate Vicky (her TV channel is on EWTN always) to please pray this prayer daily.  According to her, it is a promise of our Lord to St. Bernard - whoever venerates and honor His Sacred Shoulder Wound will be forgiven of all venial and mortal sins.  How remiss of me! I'm always thinking of Jesus' 5 wounds only but not his shoulder wound (for carrying the Cross).
PRAYER TO THE SHOULDER WOUND OF JESUS
O most loving Jesus, meek Lamb of God, I a miserable sinner, salute and worship the most Sacred Wound of thy Shoulder to which Thou didst bear thy heavy Cross, which so tore Thy Flesh and laid bare Thy Bones as to inflict on Thee an anguish greater than any other Wound of Thy Most Blessed Body.  I adore Thee, O Jesus most sorrowful; I praise and glorify Thee and give Thee thanks for this most sacred and painful Wound, beseeching Thee by that exceeding pain and by the crushing burden of Thy heavy Cross to be merciful to me, a sinner, to forgive me all my mortal and venial sins, and to lead me on towards Heaven along the Way of Thy Cross.  Amen.

I got a cell call Sunday night from Angie Cabreira in my answering machine.  I called her the next day and had a long chat with her about our own reunion plans and the good old days in college.  She was one of the Medical Technology instructors at the UST Hospital.  I told Angie my batchmate Myra of Maryland is the one planning a big birthday/reunion bash in one of the hotels in Manila and I'm not too sure of the exact date.  I said I just give the information and not the "organizer."  When things are definite I told her I will call her right away. She plans in organizing a small package tour for USTPMTBBAA members in late February and early March of 2011.  I forgot to ask her if Mila D'Bionic VP and Mrs. Gallardo will be attending the reunion in Manila.  In our chat she told me she visit the Philippines once and sometimes twice a year.

VALENTINE'S DAY

Our hearts are as big as our tummies.  The road to Hana Asian Bistro is through Skokie Blvd in the ideal Village of Skokie (not in Hawaii).  We ordered our favorite beef teriyaki and shrimp and vegetable tempura. We had sweetie pie cake and ice cream for dessert.  Sooo good!

Watercolor Paintings by Marcel Reynaert

So beautiful! The texts are about growing old.  It's very inspiring.  Enjoy the music of "Till" by Roger Williams - one of my favorite songs.
